A Guide To Understanding Your Insurance Coverage: Counselling and Psychotherapy

Understanding insurance coverage can be complicated! In an effort to bring some clarity to the process, we’ve developed the following guide to help you understand and communicate with your insurer about your coverage options. Since every insurance plan is different, it is your responsibility to determine which services your insurance provider will cover and it is important that you are familiar with your insurance plan before starting services with any member of our team. We are not able to provide refunds for services which are subsequently denied coverage by an insurer. If you have any questions about the information contained in this guide, please contact our Client Care Team.

General Information About Insurance Coverage for Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling, psychotherapy, and psychological services are not covered by OHIP. However, you may have coverage for these services under your employee benefits plan. Each insurance plan specifies which types of counselling and psychotherapy providers they will cover, based on their credentials. While the credentials for each member of our counselling team varies, our practitioners are typically covered by insurance under the titles of:

  1. Registered Psychotherapist

  2. Registered Social Worker

  3. Registered Psychologist

  4. Registered Marriage and Family Therapist*

*Please contact our Client Care Team for more information about coverage under the title Registered Marriage and Family Therapist.

Does your insurance plan cover Registered Psychotherapists, Registered Social Workers, or Registered Psychologists? If your plan covers EITHER Registered Psychotherapists or Registered Social Workers, we suggest you review that section below first.
