My Style & Approach

Welcome. I am grateful you are here to explore your options for counselling and to learn a little more about the therapy experience we can foster together. My style is warm, calm, and kind-hearted; my professional approach is collaborative, honest, and reflective. I hold a compassionate understanding for how life’s inevitable stresses, confusions, and losses can weigh on us and interrupt even the simplest wishes we have for ourselves.

As a counsellor, and as someone who has experienced meaningful change through counselling, I recognize and deeply value that clients know themselves and their stories best. Grounded in person-centred care, we will work together to tailor a counselling process that reflects your goals and honours your lived experiences. I draw from a variety of evidence-based practices including strength-based, solution- focused, emotion-focused, narrative, and cognitive behavioural therapies.

I believe we are capable of the growth we seek and I hold the counselling space as one of empowerment, healing, and relationship repair. I look forward to our shared time together and supporting you on your path toward hope, clarity, stability, and well-being.

Education, Training, & Professional Development

Building on my previously earned degrees and qualifications (Honours Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education, Master of Education, Special Education Specialist), I am currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I have worked in alternative and mainstream secondary schools for nearly 30 years, the last 13 as a passionate and trusted Principal. My life’s work has been dedicated to supporting others to see the best within themselves alongside building

safe and inclusive communities of care.

I have taught Mental Health First Aid for Adults who Interact with Youth for the Mental Health Commission of Canada as well as graduate level courses in adolescent development and education for at-risk youth. I also hold a variety of certifications in crisis and trauma-informed practices as well as Reiki Level 1. Committed to lifelong learning, I am interested in future training in EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and couples/polyamorous counselling.

Personal interests

I enjoy many activities that bring me peace and fill my cup such as time on the water, reading, sunshine, gardening, basketball, board games, hosting large gatherings, intuitive journaling, campfires, hot yoga, and spending time with my adult sons (affectionately known as “my giants”), as well as with family and friends. I continue to work on prioritizing physical activity and healthy nutrition. With each passing year, I am grateful for life’s lessons in learning to lean into the present and embrace being still.
